Focus Orbit is a well-made, robust product that is designed to last many years. The wood is treated with natural oils to lock in and protect the surface, and the steel roller ball is a long lasting mechanical unit that's designed to last.

However, you will want to take some care of Focus Orbit to ensure it lasts as long as possible, ages with you, and provides you with years of focus and satisfaction. This short guide provides you with everything you need to know to look after your Focus Orbit.

Caring for your Focus Orbit

Focus Orbit is made from solid walnut wood and finished with Danish oil to bring out the grain and give it a smooth, tactile feel. With a little care, it will continue to look and feel great for years to come. Read more about why we use walnut wood.

Taking care of the wood

Walnut is a natural material that develops character over time. Your Focus Orbit has an oil finish that protects the wood while allowing you to enjoy its natural texture.

Do:

• Keep your Focus Orbit away from excessive moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

• Occasionally apply a small amount of Danish oil to maintain the wood's finish, following the manufacturer's instructions.

• Allow the oil to cure fully and wipe away any excess before using your Focus Orbit.

• Dispose of oil-soaked cloths safely, following the oil manufacturer's instructions. Never leave them crumpled up, as they can spontaneously combust.

• Enjoy the natural variations in the wood grain and the subtle patina that develops with use.

Don't:

• Soak or submerge your Focus Orbit in water.

• Leave it near radiators, heaters or in hot cars.

• Use furniture polish, varnish or harsh chemical treatments.

• Apply excessive amounts of oil. A little goes a long way.

Cleaning

A little regular cleaning will keep your Focus Orbit looking its best.

Do:

• Wipe the walnut body with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• For stubborn marks, use a very slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.

• Clean the metal toggle with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and oils.

Don't:

• Use abrasive sponges, alcohol-based cleaners or harsh detergents.

• Spray cleaning products directly onto the wood or metal mechanism.

• Allow water to enter the roller ball mechanism.

Keeping the ball rolling

The heart of Focus Orbit is the steel rolling ball encased in the centre. To ensure the ball continues to roll smoothly please:

• Ensure no water enters the ball mechanism.
  
• If anything gets caught in or around the edge of the roller ball mechanism, gently use a toothpick or similar non-scratching tool to gently remove the materials.
  
• Keep Focus Orbit away from small, grainy material such as sand or salt as this might get stuck inside the ball mechanism and disrupt the smoothness of the rolling sensation.
  
  
• If this happens use a small spray of WD-40, or similar lubricating oil, on and around the roller ball mechanism and roll the ball continuously for a few minutes to re-lubricate the inner workings and to remove any materials that may have entered the mechanism. 

Carrying and transporting Focus Orbit

Focus Orbit is designed to go wherever you do, whether that's your desk, your favourite coffee shop or your daily commute.

Do:

• Carry it in the soft pouch to protect the walnut body and metal parts from scratches.

• Keep it in a separate pocket or compartment when travelling.

• Protect it from heavy objects that could damage the wood or bend the toggle.

Don't:

• Carry it loose alongside keys, coins or other sharp objects.

• Leave it exposed to rain or extreme temperatures.

• Throw or drop Focus Orbit.
