Focus Switch is a well-made, robust product that is designed to last many years. The wood is treated with natural oils to lock in and protect the surface, and the toggle switch is a long lasting mechanical switch guarenteed to handle over a million clicks.

However, you will want to take some care of Focus Switch to ensure it lasts as long as possible, ages with you, and provides you with years of focus and satisfaction. This short guide provides you with everything you need to know to look after your Focus Switch.

Caring for your Focus Switch

Focus Switch is made from solid walnut wood and finished with Danish oil to bring out the grain and give it a smooth, tactile feel. With a little care, it will continue to look and feel great for years to come. Read more about why we use walnut wood.

Taking care of the wood

Walnut is a natural material that develops character over time. Your Focus Switch has an oil finish that protects the wood while allowing you to enjoy its natural texture.

Do:

• Keep your Focus Switch away from excessive moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

• Occasionally apply a small amount of Danish oil to maintain the wood's finish, following the manufacturer's instructions.

• Allow the oil to cure fully and wipe away any excess before using your Focus Switch.

• Dispose of oil-soaked cloths safely, following the oil manufacturer's instructions. Never leave them crumpled up, as they can spontaneously combust.

• Enjoy the natural variations in the wood grain and the subtle patina that develops with use.

Don't:

• Soak or submerge your Focus Switch in water.

• Leave it near radiators, heaters or in hot cars.

• Use furniture polish, varnish or harsh chemical treatments.

• Apply excessive amounts of oil. A little goes a long way.

Cleaning

A little regular cleaning will keep your Focus Switch looking its best.

Do:

• Wipe the walnut body with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• For stubborn marks, use a very slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.

• Clean the metal toggle with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and oils.

Don't:

• Use abrasive sponges, alcohol-based cleaners or harsh detergents.

• Spray cleaning products directly onto the wood or metal mechanism.

• Allow water to enter the switch mechanism.

Carrying and transporting Focus Switch

Focus Switch is designed to go wherever you do, whether that's your desk, your favourite coffee shop or your daily commute.

Do:

• Carry it in the soft pouch to protect the walnut body and switch from scratches.

• Keep it in a separate pocket or compartment when travelling.

• Protect it from heavy objects that could damage the wood or bend the toggle.

Don't:

• Carry it loose alongside keys, coins or other sharp objects.

• Leave it exposed to rain or extreme temperatures.

• Force the toggle if it becomes caught or obstructed inside your bag.

Customising and adjusting the switch direction

Everyone fidgets differently. That's why your Focus Switch comes with a small wrench, allowing you to adjust the direction of the toggle to suit the way you naturally hold and use it.

Do:

• Make small adjustments until you find the angle that feels most comfortable.

• Hold the switch steady while tightening the nut.

• Check occasionally that the nut remains secure.

Don't:

• Overtighten the nut, as this could damage the wood or mechanism.

• Force the switch to rotate without loosening the nut first.

• Attempt to pull the switch mechanism out of the wooden body.
